Mengyuan Fairyland (full name of Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest National Park Mengyuan Fairyland Scenic Spot) is located in Guanlei Town, Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is a well-preserved tropical rainforest, covering an area of 30 square kilometers, one of the large scale comprehensive nature reserves with the richest and most concentrated tropical biodiversity and the most complete tropical forest ecosystem in China. It's the only oasis left at 21 degrees north latitude. In addition, it is a comprehensive ecological scenic spot with the background of Southern Buddhism, set mountains, water, stone and limestone mountain monsoon rain forests, karst cave groups and Dai and Yao nationalities as a whole.

The origin of the the Mengyuan Fairyland came from the legend of the Three Kingdoms Period(220-280AD), the prime minister Zhuge Liang stationed troops in Mengyuan during his southern campaign. He was shocked by the landscape here and exclaim: "Beautiful, Fairyland! ". Afterwards it is known as "Mengyuan Fairyland ".

In the tropical rainforest, there are the 140 million year old state protected  labyrinth cycad, the earth's "living fossil" tree-fern, the first class protected plant dragon blood tree, the second class protected plant, grows on rocks, discovered at spot and named Mengyuan Jade Phoenix Flower, and the rare parasitic flower, butterfly as big as a human face and mouse deer, the humming monkey, the smallest monkey in the world.

Because the scenic spot is located in Mengla National Nature Reserve in the lime mountain tropical seasonal rainforest, it is very rich in natural resources with a mixture of tropical and subtropical plant and wildlife species. In the scenic area, limestone is widely distributed and karst landform resources are extremely rich, grew out many natural landscapes such as stone peaks, stone forests, stalagmites, stone buds, karst caves and underground rivers. Strange mountains, odd rocks and large scale caves integrated with the surrounding tropical rain forest, formed the unique natural landscape of the scenic area.

There are as many as 24 caves, the longest of which is 10 kilometers long. The main cave, Baojiaoniu Cave is 3,360 meters long. There is a dark river, the flow is about 80-100L/S. There are some branch caves. The widest span of the cavity is 20 meters, the relative height difference is 88 meters, and the general height and width are between 1-15 meters.

There are three Dai villages and one Yao village in the scenic area, which are rich in ethnic cultural resources. Although Chengzi Village, Naka Village and Nanping Village are all Dai villages, they have their own characteristics. Villagers in the Yao village live near the mountain and the water. The cultural customs of Dai and Yao people living in the scenic spot form one of the main features of the scenic spot.
