Liuzhou, referred to as "Liu", nicknamed Hucheng and Longcheng, is the second largest city in Guangxi, the largest industrial city in Guangxi, and one of the top five automobile cities in China.

Liuzhou is located in Guangxi Province and shares a border with Hunan Province. It is a stunning city with many natural attractions and a long and detailed history.

Liuzhou has a history of more than 2,100 years of construction and is a national historical and cultural city. It was first established in 206 BC as before this time, it belonged to Guilin. It was during the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907 AD) that it became a city in its own right and the name was changed to Liuzhou.

 

● Highlights of Liuzhou


As with much of Guangxi, the landscape around Liuzhou is a mix of rolling hills, mountain peaks, caves and karst scenery.

Liuzhou is overlooked by mountains and is an ideal base for exploring the minority villages in the area.The main inhabitants are ethnic hill tribes, in particular the Han tribe. They still live very traditional lives and the city offers a unique opportunity for visitors to learn first hand about different hill tribes.

 

Baili Liujiang River area: The Baili Liujiang River area is one of the key scenic spots in Liuzhou city, Guangxi and a national 4A scenic spot. Liujiang River winding through the city of Liuzhou, in the city came a 180-degree turning, forming a huge "U" shape. Liuzhou Baili Liujiang Tourist Area has the most dynamic view of the city and is the best choice for enjoying the night view of Liuzhou city.

The winding Liujiang River through the city and draw the outline of a misty line. Sitting on a cruise ship, people can see the largest river-lifting floating music fountain in Asia - the Liujiang Fountain, as well as the Liuzhou Confucian Temple, Dongtai Mountain, Jiangbin Park, Jiahe Mountain, Panlongshan Waterfall, Liujiang Bridge and other scenery.

 

Liuhou Park : located on the north bank of Liujiang River in Liuzhou City, Guangxi Province, is the most famous scenic spot in Liuzhou, Guangxi. It is a park built to commemorate Liu Zongyuan who is the Tang Dynasty's great writers and former governor of Liuzhou.Founded in 1906, the park has historic sites related to Liu Zongyuan, such as Liu Zongyuan Memorial Temple, Liu Zongyuan's Tomb of the Crown, Luochi Pool, and Ganxiang Pavilion.

 

Longtan Park: Longtan Park is located in the south of Liuzhou City, adjacent to the city center. It is a large-scale scenic spot integrating karst landscape, ethnic customs and culture in southern China and subtropical karst plant landscape. The area of the scenic spot is 1.82 times that of the Summer Palace, surrounded by 24 peaks of one lake, two pools and four valleys.

 

Confucius Temple: The Confucius Temple is a place to worship Confucius. The Temple of Literature is an important cultural landmark in the “Baili Liujiang” landscape, a classic of more than 2,000 Chinese Confucius temples. It is a national 4A level scenic spot.

 

Liuzhou Military Museum :The Liuzhou Military Museum is the largest military museum in the southwest of China.In the military museum pavilion, there are five exhibition areas of the Chinese Navy, Army, Air Force, Second Artillery and Armed Police. Each exhibition area has texts, pictures, images and models to give visitors the most intuitive understanding of the development history and equipment of the Chinese military.


Yaobu Ancient Town: "Yaobu Ancient Town" is close to Liujiang River and "Liuzhou Industrial Museum", and its geographical location can be said to be quite superior."Yaobu Ancient Town" is a good place to enjoy the night view and experience the nightlife in Liuzhou, Guangxi.


Sanjiang Dong Village: Not to be missed in Liuzhou is the scenery of Sanjiang Dong Village. The buildings in Sanjiang are stacked on top of each other and have several eaves. Most of them are built near the river and the water, but they are very different from the stilted buildings in Phoenix. The most representative building is the Wind and Rain Bridge.

 

Bailian Cave: Bailian Cave is an ancient cave which houses an underground river and the remains of a lake. it is surrounded by imposing mountains and beautiful lush countryside.there is a wealth of information located outside the cave about the ancient chinese tribal communities, the cave itself and the history of the area.

 

● Ethnic customs

The culture of Liuzhou is inclusive and multi-ethnic. The development of ethnic minority cultures such as Zhuang, Dong, Miao and Yao, exemplified by the legendary Zhuang singer Liu Sanjie.

The original ecological art of Zhuang Song, Yao Dance, Miao Festival, and Dong Tower are amazing.

The ethnic customs are unique and romantic. The songs of the Zhuang Minority, dances of the Yao Minority, and festivals of the Miao Minority and the architectures of the Dong Minority are regarded to be the "four distinct features of the ethnic customs" in Liuzhou.

The Dong Song folk music has been included in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Other cultural relics in Liuzhou listed as world material cultural heritages include Chengyang Bridge, Batuan Bridge, Mapang Drum Tower, Sanjiang Drum Tower and Duzhu Drum Tower.

 

● Liuzhou Food&Drinks

Liuzhou, an important regional center city of Guangxi, is the backdrop of the first episode of the video “A Bite of China”. 

In the Chinese culture, the taste not only relate to the taste of the tongue, the smell of the nose, but also beyond the diet.

People in Liuzhou like food, with heavy taste and spicy flavor. There are various food stalls and food stalls everywhere in the streets and alleys. Speaking of Liuzhou cuisine, many people only know that the famous Chinese and foreign snail noodles come from here.

As the most typical and delicious snack in Liuzhou, snail rice noodles has a unique flavor for its mixed taste of acid, spicy, fresh, hot , tasty and refreshing. The dish consists of rice noodles boiled and served in a soup made from a river snail stock. The soup does not usually contain any snail meat but contains various pickled vegetables, dried tofu skin, fresh green vegetables, peanuts and chile.

In fact, snail noodles are only the tip of the iceberg in Liuzhou cuisine. There are many other delicious food there like chili bone, roasted pork, bamboo tube rice, Sour fish, sour meat, Snail Duck Foot Pot, etc.

 

● Liuzhou Transportation

Liuzhou Bailian is a dual-purpose airport serving civilians and the military. About 17 kms out of town, the airport is accessible through Highway 209 and Hangling road and takes 40 minutes by car.

Airlines stopping at Liuzhou are Air China, Xiamen Air, China Express, China Eastern and Shenzhen Airlines. Liuzhou Bailian Airport has opened 17 domestic routes and 21 navigation cities inlcuding Wuhan, Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Xi’an, Haikou, Kunming and Xiamen.

Liuzhou is an important railway hub in southwestern China. Liuzhou is located in the center of Guangdong, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guizhou Province, Hunan Province and Yunnan Province.  Liuzhou City has six railway stations cover Liuzhou Station, Liuzhou North Station, Liuzhou East Station, Liuzhou West Station, Liuzhou South Station and Liujiang Station, of which Liuzhou Station and Liujiang Station are passenger stations, and the remaining stations are freight station and marshalling station.

 

● Liuzhou Climate

Liuzhou City is located in the north-central part of Guangxi and belongs to the mid-subtropical monsoon climate. The atmospheric circulation affecting Liuzhou City is mainly monsoon circulation. In the summer half year, the southerly wind is prevailing. It is characterized by high temperature, high humidity and heavy rain. In the winter half year, the northerly wind is prevailing, cold, dry and less rainy, characterized by cold, dry and less rain. The coldest month is January and the average temperature is 7.2 ℃.  The hottest is July where average temperature is 28.9 ℃. Liuzhou’s annual rainfall is about 1940 mm.
