Dingxi is located in northwest China, central Gansu Province at the intersection of Loess Plateau, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and West Qinling Mountains, known as the "Gateway of Lanzhou, Throat of Gansu ".
Dingxi has a long history and rich cultural tourism resources. Since the Qin Dynasty in the Warring States, Longxi County has a history of more than 2,200 years. It is the important birthplace of the Yellow River civilization of the Chinese nation, the naming place of Majiayao Culture, the place where Li family searched for their roots and paid tribute to their ancestors, the intersection place of Qijia, Siwa, Xindian and other prehistoric cultures and the important distribution center of calligraphy and painting works in China.
There are national and provincial forest parks in Dingxi, such as Guiqing Mountain, Zheyang Mountain and Lianfeng Mountain. The cultural sites of Majiayao, Qijia and Siwa in the Neolithic Age, the Qin Dynasty Great Wall site stretching 300 kilometers from Lintao in the west, the "Li’s Hall" where the Li family at home and abroad sought their roots and respected their ancestors, hot spring in Tongwei, etc. There are also the copper cast gauges made in Wang Mang's New Dynasty (9 ~ 23), 1200 year Tang Dynasty monument, the Yuan Dynasty tomb group, Ming Dynasty bronze bell and other national key cultural relics, as well as Baling Bridge in Weiyuan and Weiyuan Building in Longxi.

Dingxi City is located in the hinterland with complex terrain and big climate differences. The central and northern parts of the city are dry and rainy, while the southern part is cold and wet. The climate type of Dingxi City belongs to the north temperate zone semi-humid to the middle temperate zone semi-arid zon and the continental monsoon climate is obvious. The general characteristics are abundant light energy, insufficient heat resources, rain and heat in the same season, precipitation is rare and variable, dry climate. The average annual temperature is 5.7 ~ 7.7℃, the frost-free period is 122 ~ 160 days, and the average annual rainfall is 350 ~ 600 mm, mainly in July, August and September. Taking Weihe River as the boundary, it can be divided into two natural types: Loess hilly and gully region in the north and alpine and humid region in the south. The northern part, which accounts for 60% of the total area of the whole region is the semi-arid zone in the middle temperate zone with less precipitation, sufficient sunshine and large temperature difference. The latter accounts for 40% of the total area of the city is the semi-humid zone in the warm temperate zone with high altitude and low temperature. The extreme maximum temperature ranges from 33.0℃ to 36.1℃ and the annual average sunshine duration ranges from 2,114 hours to 2,433 hours.
