Karola Glacier is located at the junction of Langkazi County and Jiangzi County in the southern Tibetan Mountains, about 71 kilometers away from Jiangzi County. Mount Noijin Kangsang is one of the four greatest snow-capped mountains in Tibet. In its ravines, there are over 100 glaciers which cover a total area of 118.82 square kilometers. Among these glaciers, Karola Glacier is the biggest one while the place you watch the glacier is 5400 meters high.Entirely it covers an area of 9.4 square kilometers. It is one of the three major continental glaciers in Tibet and the source of the eastern Nianchu River.
Karuola Glacier is a very special place to enjoy the great glacier sceneries. It has the very magnificent seracs which look like exquisite paintings in distance. The white and flawless glaciers are laid on the top of the hill without concealment, with gentle slopes towards the top of the glacier giving way to hanging glacier forms below, it's a spectacular sight, especially in the sunlight when it shines a brilliant white, more like eagles spreading their wings.
Because of being close to the highway, the lower layer of the glacier is colored to black by the dust, while the upper glacier takes on bright, glittering and translucent in the sun, resembling a big Thangka hanging on the cliff. When the climate gets warm, the snow covered the glacier will melt on the ice layer and then form fabulous serac pillars. In the serac pillars, where snow meets earth, there are rolling ices, like delicate patterns made by skillful craftsman.
There is a little white pagoda standing at the foot of Karola Glacier, with flying prayer flags around. When spring and summer come, the grassland turns green. The flocks of goats and yaks appreciate their feast in this beautiful land. Contrasted with the blue sky, soft clouds and colorful prayer flags, the scenery of Korala Glacier is really amazing. Because of its spectacularity, many films have been shot there, including Red River Valley, Yun Shui Yao, Battle of Gyantse etc.
