"Encore Dunhuang" is a situational performance project and a large-scale live performance project. It is an important part of the construction of the Inheritance and Innovation Zone of Chinese Civilization. It becomes another international tourism name card of Dunhuang after Mogao Grottoes, Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring.

“Encore Dunhuang” The performance began in 2016. It is the first cross-field integrated entertainment project in China, thus boosting the development of tourism industry in Dunhuang and Hexi region.

The project is divided into performing arts square area, cliff-style business square area, apartment hotel, hall cluster, etc. It is a large-scale comprehensive cultural industry project focusing on cultural tourism, integrating scenic spot sightseeing, cultural experience, leisure vacation, health preservation, catering and shopping.

"Encore Dunhuang" is performed in a venue of 390,000 square meters, with a large pit left over from past construction. These conditions leave many possibilities for architectural design, both above ground and underground. The architectural design of the performance through multi-level interpretation, including mogao Grottoes, murals, rock walls and other cultural elements, carries out the integration of various spatial processing. The building is design around the theme of "Encore Dunhuang", so that visitors to Dunhuang have a new experience. The play with subversive "through the performance" mode, leading the audience to a "through the past and the present". The content of the performance is based on six characters as the story line, through five typical scenes across the millennium of historical story. As soon as the audience enters the theater, they enter a magnificent dreamland space. In this labyrinth-like theater, rare super-large linkage stage machinery, 3D video installation, and moving giant screen installation are set up. There are 28 lifts working at the same time and many of the special effects are pioneering. In this space, the audience is no longer just watching, but participating in the whole process of the performance.

The director Wang Chaoge of "Encore Dunhuang" performance is one of the chief directors of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She created the "Impression of Liu Sanjie", "Impression lijiang", "Impression of West Lake", "Encore Pingyao", "Encore Wutai Mountain" and other "Impression" series and "Encore" series performances and they have been the most attractive tourist projects in these scenic spots. To this end, she said she would do her best to pay tribute to Dunhuang culture with excellent works. It has been a must-see performance in Dunhuang.

This performance is a reappearance of dunhuang's extensive and profound oriental charm art after thousands of years of sleep. She takes you through thousands of years to understand the context, historical changes and cultural heritage of the Silk Road. Here's how she became a legend.

As a unique landmark building, Encore Dunhuang theater is located at the exit of S314 expressway, allowing visitors from all over the country to see it at first sight. Mogao Grottoes Digital Center is at east of the theater. It is 2.3 kilometers away from Dunhuang Railway Station, 3.5km from Dunhuang Airport and 11 km from downtown Dunhuang City.

Encore Dunhuang has a strong cast. The cast and crew are about 400 people in total, and more than 300 performers are resident performers. There are 3 evening shows at 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
