Located in Dayi County of Chengdu City, Jianchuan Museum is indeed a cluster of museums, each with specific exhibition themes. This museum cluster is the brainchild of prominent local entrepreneur Fan Jianchuan who made fortune from real estate business in Sichuan. He single handedly financed the museum and collected many of its exhibition items. It opened to public in 2005 on the 60th anniversary of victory of anti-Japan war. It is now the biggest private museum in China. It houses 8 million items in its 25 themed exhibition halls and 2 themed exhibition squares.
Mainstay of Anti Japan War. This 2000 square meter hall is dedicated to the grand fight against imperial Japan by Chinese in 1930s-1940s led by Chinese Communists. Chinese communists staged the resistance mostly in forms of guerrilla warfare. This hall presented how communists united all Chinese to counter attack Japanese aggression.
This hall is specifically designed to remember the contribution in fight against Japan conducted by the Nationalist Party, then the ruling politic party of Republic of China. Very few museums or exhibition bodies in mainland China remember the sacrifice of the Nationalists due to the conflict of ideology for decades. Jianchuan Museum was an exception and was bold enough to highlight the efforts of Nationalists in their fight against imperial Japan.
This is one of few museums in China built in memorial of Americans soldiers who supported, contributed and sacrificed in China’s struggle against Japanese occupation during World War II. China and America were allies during World War II and many American aviators fought for China in names of volunteers before America declared war with Japan in 1941 after Pear Harbor attack. General Claire Lee Chennault, a household name in China, formed his team of volunteer pilots who were known to Chinese as Flying Tigers. They guarded the home front of China and attacked many Japanese military facilities in occupied China. This hall showcased these Sino-US friendships bound by blood
