Mianyang, a prefecture level city of Sichuan Province, located in the northwest of the Sichuan Basin, the middle and upper reaches of the Fujiang River. It borders Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province and Wenxian County of Gansu Province in the northwest. It is between 30°42 ' and 33°03' north latitude and 103°45 ' and 105°43' east longitude, covering an area of 20,200 square kilometers. The central urban area of Mianyang covers an area of 167.58 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 3 districts, 1 county level city and 5 counties. It takes charge of the Science City Office of Sichuan provincial government and has a permanent population of about 4,9 million.

Since Fuxian county was set up in the second year of Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (201 BC), Mianyang has a history of more than 2,200 years of construction. It has always been the prefecture site. Later, it was named "Mianyang" because of its location in the south of Mianshan Mountain. Stone tools and pottery from the Neolithic Age, 4,500 years ago were unearthed from the Bianduishan site. It is the birthplace of the fairy poet Li Bai and Ouyang Xiu, one of the "Eight masters of Tang and Song dynasties". It is also the birthplace of Leizu, mother of silk and the birthplace of Dayu, founder of the Xia Dynasty. 

Mianyang is the only science and technology city in China approved by the CPC Central Committee and The State Council. It is the second largest economy in Sichuan Province, one of the seven regional central cities cultivated and expanded, the regional central city of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, and an important national defense scientific research and electronic industry production base, known as the "Land of Happiness and Silicon Valley of the West".

Airport: Mianyang Nanjiao Airport, 10 kilometers from the city center, is the third largest airport in Sichuan province after Chengdu Shuangliu Airport and the new Chengdu Tianfu Airport.

Railways: Baoji-Chengdu Railway, Xian-Chengdu passenger dedicated line and Chengdu-Mianyang-Lesheng intercity railway run through the city, with Mianyang station, Jiangyou station and Qinglian station. By train to the north, you can go direct to Xi 'an, Shanghai, Qingdao, Beijing and other cities. Chongqing, Chengdu and Kunming can be reached in the south. Three more new railways are been constructed.
