Passing through a sea of rapeseed flowers by steam train in Jiayang Leshan

The steam engine, the greatest invention of the 18th century, has, for many, already been replaced by advanced motive power machine. It runs 19.84 km from Shixi to Huangcun Mine station with 8 intermediate stops, which are Yuejin, Bee Rock, Rape Flower Dam , Fairy’s Foot, Jiao Dam, and Plantain Ravine Town stations. traverses through the mountainous region and connects the villages along its route.

The Jiayang Steam Train in Qianwei County, Leshan, is currently the only narrow-gauge coal-fired steam train running in the world, which is praised as “A Living Fossil of the 18th Century Industrial Revolution ”. Passing through beautiful sea of Spring canola flowers and Summer sunflowers in countryside, it is also one of the Best Sightseeing and Photograph Sites in Sichuan.

The natural scenery along the rail line is attractive in spring when rapeseed flowers are in full bloom. The whistling locomotive puffs white smoke and runs through seas of flowers. This scene draws tens of thousands of tourists to embark the journey annually.

Scenery between Mifengyan Station and Caiziba Station is much more beautiful than other sections on the Bajiaogou Shixi Coal Way, and the layers of Chuannan terraced fields with golden rape flowers blossom and green leaves in Duanjiawan is the most beautiful sights when taking Jiayang Steam Train in March.

Mifengyan Station is the midpoint of Bajiaogou-Shixi Coal Railway. The train will stop here for a while, so that all passengers can get off and walk to the nearby observatory to closely catch the best shoots and most picturesque moments when the train drives backward to reappears out of a ocean of flowers.
