Mangshi is the capital city of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, with a total area of 2,900.91 square kilometers. It borders Myanmar in the south with a border of 68.3 kilometers. It is an important gateway from China to South Asia and Southeast Asia, with a permanent population of about 440,000. It is inhabited by many ethnic groups, such as Dai, Han, Jingpo, Deang, Achang, Lisu and so on.

 

● Top things to do in Mangshi

Mengbanaxi Exotic Garden located in the southeast of Mangshi City, Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province is the national 4A scenic spot, the national rare ecological garden and subtropical plant gene treasure house. It brings together a large number of rare ancient or famous trees and rare siliceous wood in the world.

Wuyun Temple: Located in the east of Mangshi, Wuyun Temple was built in 1665, the fourth year of Emperor Kangxi's Reign in the Qing Dynasty. It was the first Buddhist temple built in Mangshi. The temple houses the first Buddha statue that was brought to Mangshi from Myanmar and is regarded as a treasure.

Bodhi Temple: First built in 1667 in the 16th year of Kangxi's Reign in the Qing Dynasty, is one of the best existing Buddhist temples in Mangshi.

 

● Mangshi Food&Drinks

Bamboo rice boil chicken: rare bamboo rice can only grow once in a few decades, boil with local chicken, is a delicious food for honored guests of the Lisu nationality.

Lemongrass roast ribs: Lemongrass is one of the most favorite ingredients of the Dai  nationality in Dehong, is a must eat dish in Dehong.

Deang nationality cold dish with sour tea: Tea culture in Dehong prefecture has a long history. Dehong people, especially Deang people, are good at extracting the deeper taste of dishes with tea. Deang cold dish with sour tea is a perfect combination of tea leaves and dishes.

Roast pork: Dehong's unique roast technique with spices makes it a delicious dish in Dehong’s national banquet.

Dehong ganba is made of fat-fated beef, pure meat without tendon and with various precious natural spices, which can clear heat and reduce fire, through charcoal fire and wood hammer. The meat is soft and original, which is the most characteristic snack of the Dai nationality.

Hand grab rice: Dehong is the birthplace of Dehong's hand grab rice. There are many kinds of hand grab rice, most of which are made of pure ecological dyed rice.

Jingpo ghost chicken: Jingpo people have animistic religious belief in history, and ghost chicken is the chicken that Jingpo people sacrifice. After the sacrifice of ghosts and gods, the chicken is slaughtered, boiled and cooled and then shredded. It is made in the field with chopped ginger, garlic, burman coriander, lemon leaves and other related ingredients, mixed with salt, MSG, soy sauce and other spices. In the past, only Shanguan (head of Jingpo people) and nobles could enjoy this dish.

Achang rice noodle: It is not only the most traditional food but also the most favorite food of Achang people.

Airport: Dehong Mangshi Airport has opened more than 13 navigable cities in China.

Railway: The Dali-Ruili Railway is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2023.

Highway: Kunming - Mangshi 674 km. There are overnight sleeper buses.

Dali - Mangshi 380 km. Baoshan - Mangshi 180 km.

Located in low latitude plateau, Mangshi is rich in heat and has a mild climate, belonging to the south subtropical monsoon climate, with long summer and short winter, clear dry and wet, no severe cold in winter and no hot summer, long sunshine duration, abundant rainfall and foggy winter. The annual average temperature is 19.6℃, the average temperature in the hottest month (June) is 24.1℃, and the average temperature in the coldest month (January) is 12.3℃. Annual average precipitation 1,654.6㎜, the rainy season (May to October) precipitation accounted for 89% of the annual precipitation, the annual average number of rainfall days 170 days, sunshine hours 2,252.9 hours, evaporation 1,723.6㎜, frost-free 315 days.
