Shuanghe is a county level city directly under the jurisdiction of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,China. It is located at the north foot of Bolokonu Mountain in the north of Tianshan Mountains. The name of the city comes from the Shuanghe Prefecture established in the Western Regions in the Tang Dynasty, meaning double river of Jinghe River and Bortala River. Shuanghe City covers an area of 2,869 square kilometers with a total population 53,800. There are 25 ethnic groups including Han, Mongolian, Uygur, Kazak, Hui and so on.
Rocks Valley Scenic Area is located on the Chinese side of the China-Kazakhstan border about 59 kilometers northeast of Shuanghe City. Between 780 and 1,350 meters above sea level, it is composed of more than a dozen valleys, extending 18 kilometers from east to west, about 13 kilometers wide from north to south. The largest width is 22 kilometers, the total area is 230 square kilometers. It is the world's largest granite porphyry strange rock group scenic spot.

Airport: Bole Alashankou Airport is 11 kilometers from Shuanghe City. It has flights to/from the six cities within the region such as Aksu, Altay, Urumqi, Korla, Kashgar and Karamay.
Shuanghe City has a typical temperate continental climate, characterized by cold winter and hot summer, large temperature difference between day and night, long sunshine time, low rainfall and high evaporation.
