The Longgong means Dragon’s Palace in Mandarin Chinese. It is a group of caste caves. Longgong scenic area is in Xixiu District of Anshun City, Guizhou Province. It is about 27km from downtown Anshun and 35km from the famous Huangguoshu waterfall. It is about 120km away from Guizhou’s provincial capital Guiyang.
This site is in a sub-tropical monsoon climate with average temperature of 14 degree. July is the hottest month with average temperature of 21.9 degree. The weather in this region is generally wet and mild, suitable for family trips. The scenic area is consist of caste caves, valleys, waterfalls, stone forests, Underground River, geological funnels, brooks and cliffs. It is predominantly a site with caste geological features.
Longgong is also a treasure hub of plants and herbs. More than 1200 kinds of plants or herbs are found in this region. This site holds several titles in Guinness World Records. It is said to be the place with largest and most numerous caste cave groups. It also has the largest Chinese character of Long (dragon in Chinese) in the form of plant landscape.
This site has one of the longest and most beautiful caste caves in China. Cave One is 840 meters in length and is full a exotic looking crystals and stalactites. Cave Two is 400 meters long; consist of four main cavities and many turns and twists. A boat trip inside these caves is considered a life time experience.
Tianchi, or Heavenly Pool, is one of the must visit site in this region. It is a result of collapsed caste cave walls caused by continuous erosion by underground water. This exposed water pool sits at 1170 meters. It is 220 meters long and 50 meters wide with surface area of 12500 square meters and average depth of 28 meters.
Another interesting site to visit is the farm field on which a giant Chinese character for Dragon (Long) is laid out. It is a rapeseed and broad bean field in the spring and a rice paddy filed. It covers an area of 80,000 square meters, all this crop plants constitutes probably the world’s largest Chinese character.
