On the North West corner of Guizhou Province, lies a scenic area named Baili Azalea Scenic Spot. It means hundred miles of Azalea bushes. This 1-3 kilometer wide virgin forest belt stretches more then 50 kilometers. It is now a 5A level scenic spot and a national forest park. According to a recent preliminary site investigation Rhododendron delavayi, Rhododendron anthosphaerum Diels, Rhododendron irroratum Franch and other ones constitute a group of 41 species in a compact region that includes all 5 subgenus of Azalea family. The best time to visit is from late March to May when azalea blossom is at its peak. In 2015 this site served more than 4.8 million visitors from home and abroad.
Baili Dujuan is in a warm temperature zone and enjoys a warm and wet monsoon climate. It has a average temperature of 11.8 degree and 1150mm of annual precipitation. This provides a perfect climatic environment for Azalea plants. Every year from March to April, this area turns into a sea of Azalea flowers. Apart from floral sea, this region is also home to many flora and fauna. More than 104 species of birds and 31 species of animals are observed in this area.
Wucailu, or Five Color Road, is a place visitors could see concentration of Azalea flower. It was called Wuchalu, but it was changed to Wucailu as it turn colorful during the blossom of Azalea.
Apart from natural scenery, Bijie was a revolutionary city. In 1936, the city of Bijie was the battlefield between Red Army and Nationalist Army. A Red Army square was set up in 1985 to commemorate the sacrificed Red Army soldiers. A 3 meter tall monument was built on this square.
