Tiantai Mountain in Chengdu, Sichuan Province is part of the Qionglai Mountains. It is located in Qionglai City, one of the four ancient cities in Sichuan Province and one of the outstanding tourism cities in China. It is 110 kilometers away from Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province. The scenic area covers an area of 106 square kilometers. The main peak, Yuxiao Peak, is 1,812 meters above sea level.
The scenic spot has a mild climate, abundant rainfall, an average annual temperature of 16℃, and a forest coverage rate of 94.4%. It is rich in animal and plant species including more than 20 species of rare plants under state protection, such as dove tree, yew tree and ginkgo and 7 species of rare animals under state protection such as giant panda, red trapan and giant salamander. It is a world natural heritage of Sichuan giant panda habitat, a national scenic spot, a national 4A level tourist attraction and a national forest park.
Tiantai Mountain has a profound historical and cultural heritage. As early as in ancient times, Tiantai Mountain was the place where the ancient Qiong people lived and multiplied. The mountain was chosen as a platform for heaven worship
so it was known as Tiantai which means the platform to the heaven. Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism coexist.
The scenery of Tiantai Mountain is very special with the front view of Chengdu Plain, the back view of Yuxi Valley, the right side of Mengding Mountain and the left side of Yulin. It is a combination of vast natural and artificial high mountain forest approx 1,333 hectors. The main peak Yuxiao Peak is 1,812 meters above sea level. The valley surrounded by mountains forms the platform of about 30 square kilometers that slopes slightly from southwest to northwest, more than 1,400 meters above sea level. It is pleasant all the year round, warm in winter and cool in summer.
Tiantai Mountain, as a close combination of natural landscape and cultural history, is famous for its "strange mountains, strange rocks, beautiful water and deep forests". The scenic spot has a mild climate, abundant rainfall, the average annual temperature is 16℃ and the forest coverage rate reaches 94.4%. There are more than 350 species of 83 families of plants in the scenic area, including more than 20 species of precious trees, such as the dove tree, yew tree, grate fir, silver magpie and multi-flowered mildew. Rare animals such as crested deer, forest musk deer, red - bellyed pheasant, green - tailed pheasant and salamander can be found in forest, streams and ravines. There are 5 classes, 24 orders, 32 families and more than 50 species of economic plants. Therefore, Tiantai Mountain Scenic Spot is known as the Green Pearl with great scientific research value. In addition, there are more than 270 precious butterfly species such as monarch butterfly and 17 firefly species resources, a large number of populations. Butterfly and firefly appreciation activities in the scenic spots have become popular ecological tourism projects.
