Land of Idyllic Beauty, in Mandarin Chinese literally means “an idyllic land full of peach flower blossom only found in fictions”. It can be roughly translated as Xanadu of China. Many books and transcripts in ancient China depicted this care free, utopian and other-worldly place on earth. The pursue of such an utopian world was the goal of many poets and dignitaries A writer and poet named Tao Yuanming who lived in 4th century AD famously described this idyllic land in his iconic and fictional Land of Idyllic Beauty (Journey to the peach flower garden) and the idea of Land of Idyllic Beauty. Some believed that this piece of land in his depiction was based on a place in Hunan province.

But here in Yangshuo , Guilin City, a scenic spot is named Land of Idyllic Beauty. Just like many other places in Yangshuo and Guilin, it is not in short supply of idyllic sight, crystal clear water and friendly people.

This scenic spot is by the side of Guiyang road near Baisha Town of Yangshuo County, it is an AAAA national level scenic spot. It is primarily consist of Lotus Pond, Swallow Lake, Swallow Cave, Ethnic Dong Village and Ancient Tribes. It is designed with the purpose that visitors can follow the foot steps of Tao Yuanming, to find their own utopian Land of Idyllic Beauty.   

At this scenic spot, most of the sightseeing takes place on water in Swallow Lake, and one third of the visits take place on land when tourists visit the ethnic architectures and experience the customs of local people. A boat cruise in Swallow Lake is highly recommended. It is an easy and comfortable way to enjoy the beauty of this site. On land, you can visit workshops and get to know the techniques of batik (wax printing) cloth and brocade making.  Performance such as rituals and singing contest of ethnic groups are available to visitors, providing a good chance to immerse themselves with local cultures.
