Chengyang (Saier) Eighth Villages is located in Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County, Liuzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 19 kilometers away from Sanjiang county seat. There are eight natural villages in Chengyang (Saier) Eighth Village, commonly known as "Chengyang (Saier) Eighth Villages", where about 10,000 Dong people live. There are many festivals here, known as the "hometown of hundred festivals". When the Spring Festival comes, every village is boiling, the village is singing and dancing, beaming everywhere.
There are eight contiguous Dong villages in Sanjiang Couty of Guangxi Region which borders on Hunan and Guizhou provinces. Not only has the ancient traditions of Dong nationality such as wooden buildings, clothing and accessories, singing and dancing culture and living customs preserved intact, but also has continued to carry forward in the blend with modern life, and successfully developed into a new tourist village that is unforgettable. This is Chengyang (Saier) Eight Villages in Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County.
Sanjiang County is at the junction of Guangxi, Hunan and Guizhou, Chengyang Village is 20 kilometers north of Guyi Town, the county seat. It is a thousand households big village of dong nationality. There are eight natural villages, including Ma 'an Village, Ping Village, Yan Village, Pingtan Village, Dong Village, Chengyang Big Village, Pingpu Village and Jichang Village. It covers an area of 1255 square kilometers and has 9,701 residents in 2,197 households. The world famous Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge, a state key cultural relic protection unit, is located on the Linxi River beside this Chengyang Eighth Villages. Built in 1912, Chengyang bridge is the largest wind and rain bridge in the world.
Guangxi is the region with the largest minority population in China. Sanjiang County is criss-crossed by large and small rivers. Sanjiang(meaning three rivers) gets its name from the three large rivers in the county, Rongjiang River, Xunjiang River and Miajiang River. As the only Dong minority county in Guangxi, Sanjiang has the most intact, the largest number and the most concentrated distribution of Dong architectural groups in China. There are numerous wind and rain bridges and drum towers in the county, which enjoys the reputation of "the town of towers and bridges".
The representative Chengyang Eight Villages is a miniature of the home to the Dong ethnic group in Sanjiang and is now a national 4A level tourist attraction. The wooden buildings, drum towers, wind and rain bridges in the village, the surrounding mountains, rivers and fields constitute a unique picture scroll, so Chengyang Eight Villages is praised as one of the most beautiful villages in China.
