Zigong Dinosaur Museum is located in the northeast of Zigong, 9 km from the city center. It is a large museum built on the world-famous Dashanpu dinosaur fossil site. It is also the first professional dinosaur museum in China and one of the three largest dinosaur ruin museums in the world, heart of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural organization Global Geopark in Zigong and the first class national museum. Covering an area of more than 70,000 square meters, the museum contains nearly all the known dinosaur species from the Jurassic Period 205-135 million years ago, and is currently the largest collection and display of Jurassic dinosaur fossils in the world. The American National Geographic named it "the best dinosaur museum in the world ".

Zigong is the world-famous Jurassic "Home of Dinosaurs", known for dinosaur fossils buried in a wide range of sites, a large number, a large variety, well-preserved, sequence and other features. Since 1915, nearly 200 fossil sites have been found in 4,373.13 square kilometers of land under its jurisdiction. In particular, the Dashanpu dinosaur fossil site, where the Zigong Dinosaur Museum is located, represents an extremely rare diversity, integrity, and preciousness of ancient organisms, making it a national treasure.
The fossil burial hall in the Museum is one of the largest fossil burial sites in the world, with the highest concentration of fossils in the world. At the same time, there is still a relatively complete geological section on the site, which has its special geological significance. The paleontological fossil site has been included in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural organization's pre selected list of world geological sites, and is one of the first priority sites recommended by the World Heritage Committee's World Heritage List.
The collection of dinosaurs and other ancient ridge vertebrate fossils are very complete, most of them are related to the preservation of a complete skeleton. Among the more than 200 individuals discovered, there are more than 40 skeletons with more than 60% integrity, and more than 10 skeletons with more than 80% integrity. This is very rare in the world of ancient ridge vertebrates, with high value. In addition to the well-preserved dinosaurs, there are rare vestigial fossils such as dinosaur skin, dinosaur eggs, dinosaur footprints, and dinosaur tail hammers, and PTEROSAURS, plesiosaurs, crocodiles, turtles, Cyathea Ferns, Ginkgo Biloba and many other dinosaur-era fossils of animals and plants. Many of them are world-class treasures of important scientific value. They are a treasure house of Jurassic animals.
