Guizhou Chishui Travel Guide

Chishui, a county level city in Guizhou Province, administered by Zunyi City, is located in the northwest of Guizhou Province, in the middle and lower reaches of the Chishui River. It borders Xishui County in Guizhou Province in the southeast and Gulin County, Xuyong County and Hejiang County in Sichuan Province in the northwest. It is 225 kilometers away from Zunyi, 377 kilometers from Guiyang, 172 kilometers from Chongqing, 293 kilometers from Chengdu and 40 kilometers from Luzhou, with a total area of 1,852 square kilometers. The permanent population is 247,287. There are 26 nationalities live in the area such as Han, Miao, Tujia, Gelao, Buyi and so on.

Chishui is located in the transition zone from Guizhou Plateau to Sichuan Basin. Loushan Mountain extends into the city with three ridges from southeast to northwest, and the terrain is high in southeast and low in northwest. Chishui River and Xishui River run from the southeast to the northwest throughout the territory. Datong river, Fengxi River and other rivers crisscrossing, the landscape is cut by erosion into canyons, flat hills and hills.

Chishui has been awarded the honorary titles of "China Excellent Tourism City", "International Leisure Tourism City", "National Ecological City" and "Forest City of Guizhou Province".

Chishui has 1 World Natural Heritage site - China Danxia Chishui. 1 national scenic spot - Chishui Scenic Spot. 2 national forest parks - Yanzi Rock National Forest Park & Bamboo Sea National Forest Park. 2 national nature reserves - Chishui Podophylla National Nature Reserve & National Nature Reserve for Rare and Endemic Fish in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River. 1 national geological park - Chishui Danxia National Geological Park. 4 national 4A(second level) scenic spots - Chishui Waterfall, Bamboo Sea, Yanzi Rock & Foguang Rock scenic spot.

Chishui Waterfall is a national 4A(second level) scenic spot and the core scenic spot of Chishui Danxia World Natural Heritage. Located in the upper reaches of Fengxi River in Lianghekou Township, it is a natural waterfall park 38 kilometers away from downtown, Chishui Waterfall and its surrounding Zhongdong Waterfall, Panlong Waterfall, Lianghekou Waterfall, Jifeiya Waterfall, etc.

Bamboo Sea National Forest Park is a national 4A(second level) scenic spot. Located in Hushi Town, 40 kilometers away from the city. The scenic area is dominated by the "Bamboo Sea" scenery, with 170,000 mu(11,333 hectares) of bamboo forest and more than 40 kinds of bamboo.

Foguang Rock scenic spot is a national 4A(second level) tourist attraction. Located in Yuanhou Town, 40 kilometers away from the urban area, with Foguang Rock and Wuzhu Peak as the main landscape, respectively by Xiaojin Yi, Xiaojin Yi Valley, Wuzhu Peak, Arcadia, Sun Valley and other five major scenic spots. The scenic area is one of the core scenic spots of Chishui Danxia World Natural Heritage.

Bing 'an ancient town is a famous historical and cultural village. Located in Chishui City Bing 'an Township, 25 kilometers away from the city.

● What to eat in Chishui

Roasted carp with tofu pudding, braised chicken with black bamboo shoots, pickled paddy fields carp of Dong nationality, steamed glutinous rice meat bun, Chishui River fresh fish feast, Maotai liquor, etc.

● Transportation

Railway: After completion of Luzhou-Zunyi high speed railway, it will only take about 40 minutes to travel from Luzhou to Zunyi. There will be a station in Chichi City.

Highway: It is convenient to travel to/from Zunyi, Guiyang, Luzhou(Sichuan Province, Chongqing and Chengdu. 

Airport: Chishui is surrounded by Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport, Luzhou Lantian Airport and Zunyi Xinzhou Airport.

Chishui City belongs to the subtropical humid monsoon climate zone, with warm winter and early spring, hot summer and frequent drought, less sunshine throughout the year, and rainy weather in early summer and late autumn. The three-dimensional climate and regional differences are significant climate characteristics. The annual average temperature is 18.1℃, the annual average rainfall is 1,195.7 mm, the annual sunshine duration is 1,145.2 hours, the annual average relative humidity is 82%, the frost-free period is 340 to 350 days and decreases with the elevation, the frost-free period is about 300 days in the area below 800 meters, and the frost-free period is 210 to 300 days in the area above 800 meters.
