Bainiaoyan, or Hundred Birds Cave as it is translated in Chinese, is an underground caste cave at the foot of Mozhai Mountain in Jiazhuan Village, Bama Yao Ethnic County, Guangxi Zhuang Ethnic Autonomous Region.
This cave is also known to locals as Longhu cave (dragon and tiger cave). Locals prefer to call it Bainiao cave (hundred birds cave) as countless swallows and bats dwell in the cave.Its formation is the result of constant erosion and impact of underground water systems. The Panyang River, flows underground at bear cave and formed a 1000 meter long underground river. It reemerges on surface at Bainiao cave. Inside the cave, it is a sea of stalactite came in different sizes and shapes. Visiting this cave require a boat ride as Panyang River flows out of the cave. It is quite an experience taking boat and enjoy and magnificent view of caste cave.
Yao is one of 56 officially recognized ethnic minority in China. They are considered one of the oldest ethnic groups in China dating back to the mythical era. There are about 2.8 million Yao people in south China, mostly (about 1.5 million) in Guangxi Zhuang Ethnic Autonomous Region. They kept many of their old traditions and practices in modern days.
