Hongyadong, formerly known as Hongya Gate, is one of the ancient gates of Chongqing. It is located on Binjiang Road by Jialing River, Yuzhong District, Chongqing. It is located in the riverside area where the Yangtze River and the Jialing River meet. In 2006, it was built with a total investment of RMB385 million(approx USD60 million) by Chongqing municipal government. Hongyadong is a key landscape project in Chongqing with a construction area of 46,000 square meters. The main scenic spots are stilted buildings(unique in southwestern China), archaize commercial streets and other landscapes. Hongyadong has 11 floors,  the lights are switched on from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. You can visit the old streets in the hilly city, enjoy local culture, taste hot pot or other local food while appreciating the confluence of the two rivers. Hongyadong reflects the Bayu culture and leisure form. It forms a unique "three-dimensional aerial pedestrian street" and becomes an urban scenic spot and commercial center with layers and texture.

In November 2007, Chongqing Hongyadong Folk Custom Scenic Area was rated as a national 4A level tourist attraction. On November 18, 2020, Hongyadong was listed as one of the Ten New Landmarks of Chengdu-Chongqing Cultural Tourism.

During the Warring States Period (314 BC), Zhang Yi in the Qin State destroyed the Ba State and built the Ba County. During the Shu Han State of the Three Kingdoms Period(226 AD), Li Yan led the second city building in Chongqing's history. Chongqing was sparsely populated at that time, it was difficult to extract rocks on a large scale, therefore, the city was made by earth. In the Southern Song Dynasty (1238), Peng Daya built a city for the third time to fight against the Mongolian soldiers. The city wall was made of stacked stones. In the fourth year of Hongwu (1371) of the Ming Dynasty, Dai Ding built the city for the fourth time with 17 gates, Hongya Gate was one of them. Hongya Gate, historically a military fortress, is also a great scenic spot in Chongqing. Hongya Cave in the Hongya Gate under the cliff edge is a huge cave, also known as Hongyan Cave or Fairy Cave. Hongya Gate has been damaged, the location now is in Honya Cave pirate ship. Most of the historical relics such as river pass fort, Hongya Gate, paper and salt wharf, Ming dynasty city wall and the inscriptions of the 1911 Revolution have been retained here.
